Nordic raga meets middle east elegance Having their roots in jazz, folk & electronic soundscapes, Violet River creates a flow of pulsing abstractions. This can be visualized like the water in the river passing by at different times of the day/week/month.
The multi facets in the music mirrors the band members diverse references and widespread geographical origin like Scandinavia, Southern Europe and The Middle East.
The band was founded after a globalunits.net session spring 2011.
Within just a few gigs and studio session they had recorded the material for this release on Brumtone.
The instrumentation is a mixture of acoustic and electronic elements.
Cengiz Cevik: Saz
August Engkilde: Cello & Electronics
Magnus Olsen Majmon: Drums & percussion
Yann Coppier: Electronics, vocals & guitar
Reviews (Translated from Danish, using google translator)
Review of the album: "It's
fascinating and beautiful project that they have created. They call it themselves for Nordic raga meets Middle Eastern elegance. In a floating
universe mixes electronics audio and sound elements with the acoustic
instruments. The listenerare over three numbers taken on a journey to a
vibrant and enriching parallel universe. "- Niels Overgård Jazznyt 9 January 2012 http://jazznyt.blogspot.com/2012/01/engkildemajmoncoppiercevik-violet-rver.html
About the band Live "[...]
With its interweaving of acoustic and electronic instruments and its globalized remix like approach to music [...] The music from Violet R!ver tell a story about how music can cross national and cultural borders and let new
music arise. a narrative created in the moment of four people each with their
own personal and cultural history [...] Also here you will find the
spiritual nerve and its hypnotic trance, and here is also a belief that
music in the moment almost can transcend time and place. "

Anmeldelser:
- Rasmus Steffensen Geiger 31 jan. 2012 http://www.geiger.dk/anmeldelser/anmeldelse.php?id=3995
